"I finally finished Personal Best. I read it slowly to underline in my mind the nuggets woven so beautifully throughout, as she shared her journey from couch potato to personal trainer. The mantras were great and my two favourite are "this train is bound for glory" and "persist and persevere", which I have now adopted as my own. Her book is more than just about eating properly and exercising to get healthy and fit. Gloria removed the blinders from her eyes that keep many of us fearful of doing what we believe to be unthinkable. A shift in her mindset gave her the courage to move past her physical and mental challenges. I especially enjoyed at the end of each chapter the Personal Best Exercises and Did You Know...? segment. "This book combines the autobiography of former couch-potato who transformed herself into a fitness guru. It starts with her 7-steps to achieving one's "personal best", which are filled with sensible and unbiased advice. The second-half of the book deals with the author's own poignant stories of her voyage on the fitness train, with her candidly discussing some very personal health issues.
